Cheer The Blogs Challenge!

In time for the holiday season and Christmas, now is the perfect time for The “Cheer The Blogs” Challenge. But I warn you, I made this up.  This is your task:

To spread blogging cheer, you give the readers 2 names of bloggers that you recommend to visit and comment on their blogs. After you complete the Challenge, you need to make a post about the challenge (with a link to my blog, crediting the idea to me.) and nameing 2 people whom you recommend.

While doing this, you have a chance to make new blogging friends and you may have a chance to make someones day by visiting their blog and leaving a friendly comment. So without further ado, I shall start the Cheer The Blogs Challenge!

Let me know what you think! Comment and enjoy!

Shiny Things!

Hello all!

I’m going to tell you a great, fun way to make a shiny ornament to hang on your tree this year! Crystalized snowflakes!

You will need:

  • widemouth jar
  • white pipe cleaners
  • blue food coloring (optional)
  • boiling water (with adult help)
  • borax (available at grocery stores in the laundry
soap section, as 20 Mule Team Borax Laundry Booster – NOT Boraxo soap)
  • pencil

Step 1: Cut a white pipe cleaner into 3 equal sections. Twist the sections together in the center so that you have a “six-sided” star shape. If your points are not even, trim the pipe-cleaner sections to the same length.

Step 2: Attach a piece of string to the top of one of the pipe cleaners and tie the
other end to a pencil (this is to hang it from).

Step 3: Fill a jar with boiling water. Mix borax into the water one tablespoon
at a time. Use 3 tablespoons of borax per cup of water. Stir until dissolved,
(don’t worry if there is powder settling on the bottom of the jar).

You can add a little blue food coloring to make it tinted blue.

Step 4: Insert your pipe cleaner snowflake into the jar so that the pencil is resting on
the lip of the jar and the snowflake is freely suspended in the borax solution.

Step 5: Wait overnight and by morning the snowflake will be covered with shiny crystals.
Hang in a window as a sun-catcher or hang it on your Christmas tree!

Have Fun!

Shame On Me!

Hello readers,

I’m so sorry, I apologize to everyone for my laziness and lack of attention to my blog! I haven’t had time for you, and I feel so bad about it! I just moved, and went to a new school, got a new house and everything. Don’t you worry though, I have lots of stories to come.

I will be telling you the ups and downs and inside-outs. I have a whole lot of Christmas and Winter related posts ready to get posted! From holiday gift and craft ideas to my own holiday plans!

See you soon!

Dear Bloggers And Friends…

I have decided to keep my blog after school ends -in one and a half days- and keep blogging. I won’t be in this school  next year because I am M O V I N G. Away. Forever. Oh woe is me!(Kidding)

I actually am moving though, to ____ oops! I can’t tell You, because You might be a forty year old man and You might be trying to hunt me down to kidnap me. Let’s just say I am moving down island.

It’s so depressing, I might never see my friends again. Or my school. Or my old house(s). School is depressing, life is depressing. Don’t worry though, I’m not a head case.

Since I will be keeping my blog out of school I won’t be writing as long posts or as many as I am now. I may turn it into more of a photo blog too or something more personal and less professional.

I hope all of you will keep coming back for more!

Travel Destination: Vancouver Island, Canada

Call your travel agent and pack your bags! You’re going on vacation!

Or, you should, at least.

But where would I go you may ask. Well, you just won a trip to Tofino! Not really, you have to pay, but that’s not my problem.

But really, go, do it, now….NOW! Well, if your going to go, I guess I should tell you about it first though. So Tofino, you may not know this, but, is the surfing capital of Canada, or British Columbia, I just simply can’t remember (and frankly, I don’t really care). Believe it or not, it also has stuff to do besides surfing! Just make sure you don’t go there when there is a tsunami warning. Those don’t happen very often though.

Maybe I’ll include a picture for those of you who like picture books.

PacificRimNationalPark, BC by RobertCiavarro Tofino is a great place to go in the summer, where you can kayak, go on whale watching tours, camp, or just relax on a beach of your choice. There is also the West Coast Trail, which is a hiking trail many kilometers long. In fact, it takes four days(!) to walk the length.

So if you’re in for an exotic vacation, Tofino is the place to go.

Disneyland:The Happiest Place on Earth…or so I thought

Or so I thought? you may wonder, that is correct, you read it right.

Spring Break. California. Warm with a slight breeze.

My sisters, grandparents and I are walking on the clean, white sidewalk on our way to Disneyland/California Adventure Park. My seventeen year old sister, Micaela, spies some lost money on the sidewalk just outside the entrance. It was about eleven American dollars. Micaela puts it in her wallet, and we walk in to where the shuttles stop.

Now here’s the high point of this story.

So we walk in, la-dee-da-dee-da, then we are walkin’ walkin’ walkin’. Then, this guy, dressed in dark clothes n’ everything, tries to pull aside Micaela, so, protecting her, my grandfather puts his hand on her back and just nudges her along. Of course, we didn’t know who he was, then he comes back and says ” Hey! I’m with Disneyland security. You wanna see my badge? Here, see.” or something along the lines of that. Anyway, he said a guy lost some money and he saw us pick it up. But he was treating us like criminals! The way he was being a jerk to us, you’d think we murdered his kid!(If he had one that is.)

So right before we walked away Micaela said, “So much for the happiest place on earth, guy.” (Not too loud, just above muttering-type volume.)

Eventually, the guy got the money back and gave it to the man, and we forgot about, at least enough to still have fun in Disneyland.

That Day is Here…And Gone

Oops, I missed it! Sadly I couldn’t get this post written and published by Valentine’s Day. 🙁

What? What day? Why am I asking myself these questions?

Well, if you didn’t already know(which you probably did) it’s, or I guess was, Valentine’s Day. Not many people know the story of how Valentine’s Day came to be. But I don’t have time to explain it, so just click the link–>right–>over–>there–>on–>Wikipedia.

So if you just clicked the link and bothered reading it, that’s why we do what we do. If you didn’t click it, I’m not explaining, just read it already.

heart in hand by D Sharon Pruitt

Everyone always bakes goodies and gets treats on Valentines day for everyone. I don’t though, because I don’t know any recipes for cookies or chocolates that I could make! So every Valentines Day I’m left in the dark, are you? Probably not. Maybe, though most likely no. For those few people who are, I’m giving you a recipe you can try, it’s in my schools newspaper, so it has been tried. So, here it is:

Chocolate Candy

You will need:

  • three cups sugar
  • three cups milk
  • five tablespoons cocoa powder
  • one tablespoon butter
  • one teaspoon vanilla
  • candy thermometer

Combine cocoa powder, sugar and milk in a saucepan (pot with handle), and bring to a boil while stirring. Boil to two-hundred thirty-five two-hundred forty degrees Fahrenheit or the soft ball stage. Use the thermometer to check the temperature.

Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla until creamy. Pour into buttered tray and allow to cool. Cut into hearts with a cookie cutter, or cut into squares with a knife.

Enjoy!
